What we do?

A short history…

Founded in 1997, Strut & Fret Production House began its life as a touring company, producing and administrating small scale tours not only throughout Australia but also into Asia, touring extensively in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

In 2001, the company began producing national tours of Australia. In the same year, it produced its first Edinburgh Fringe season with The Happy Sideshow. Since then it has gone on to tour numerous exceptional works created by the company itself and by independent artists both nationally and internationally.  Most recently, we have created new works including Blanc de Blanc, LIMBO, Cantina, Tom Tom Crew and Dream Menagerie; as well as producing premiere work from established artists including Men of Steel, Kaput (Tom Flanagan), Le Gateau Chocolat, Tom Thum – Beating the Habit, and Lovebirds.

In addition to theatrical producing and touring, Strut & Fret continues its active involvement in diverse areas of the performing arts industry, creating unique private and public events including Brunswick Music Festival, Newman Outback Fusion Festival, Coburg Night Markets, Tastes of Gold Coast, Valley Fiesta and many more.

Strut & Fret are co-producers of festival precinct, The Garden of Unearthly Delights. The Garden is an outdoor site which hosts over 100 performances in multiple temporary performance spaces, on an annual basis. In 2012, The Garden celebrated its 10th Anniversary season and was also awarded the Arts Hub 2011 Award for Contribution to the Australian Arts Scene.

In 2012, Strut & Fret announced that renowned performing arts company Strange Fruit were joining its pool of artists. Strange Fruit create and perform unique, large-scale visual spectacles that fuse theatre, dance and circus. Since the company’s inception in 1994, Strange Fruit has delighted audiences world-wide with their engaging and accessible performances and have achieved near-cult status in almost every continent across the globe, performing regularly at festivals and special events
